LCN 26.05 – Transportation For Connor

Connor is a young adult who recently experienced homelessness and is now taking significant steps toward stability. He is working as many hours as he can, enrolled in school to complete his GED and participate in a Dual Achievement program, faithfully attending church, and saving toward the purchase of a reliable car. He has been incredibly resourceful with transportation—using the local CATS system, accepting rides from friends, and receiving limited Uber assistance through a local foster care agency—but transportation continues to be one of the biggest barriers to his independence.

Because of the distance between his housing, work, school, church, and other essential services, an e-bike or similar option isn’t practical. We have identified a new 49cc motorcycle that would provide Connor with reliable transportation while he continues saving for a car. Purchasing new is important in this situation because we want to provide a dependable short-term solution without putting him in a position where unexpected repairs and maintenance consume the savings he is working so hard to build.

The motorcycle will cost approximately $1,300.

This transportation would give Connor the ability to consistently get to work, school, and church while also taking care of basic needs many of us take for granted—getting groceries, attending appointments, obtaining his eyeglasses, and managing everyday responsibilities without constantly having to find someone willing to give him a ride.

Our goal isn’t simply to meet an immediate transportation need. We want to help Connor continue moving toward long-term independence without asking him to sacrifice the car savings he has worked hard to build. He is doing his part, and we would love to come alongside him in a way that helps remove one of the biggest obstacles standing between him and continued stability.
