New Every Morning.
Have you ever been in a position where your spiritual life is “good”? You get in a rhythm of sorts… you read your Bible, you give, you attend church… you even paid it forward a few times at the Starbucks drive through. Heck, you even spent time praying!!! **Back Pat**
Then a day/week/month comes that completely derails you. You find yourself in the muck of sin and realize that all those “good’ spiritual moments were just filthy rags.
This is a hard way to live this Christian walk… constantly trying to win the affection of our heavenly Father, constantly building a terrible feeble monument of deeds and saying “Look! Look what I did!” Then when we are hit hard by our failures we may start to think “How could God love me?” Maybe it is more dire. Maybe you struggle with even getting into any kind of rhythm and only know and live the failures of sin that weigh you down. So… is this what we are to do and how to live?
Check out this passage in Lamentation 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
These verses are packed with so much. When we are trying to win His affection, His “steadfast love never ceases”! When we think that our sin has become more than what He could forgive, “His mercies never come to an end”! When we think that He can’t forgive the same things we turn to over and over “His mercies are new EVERY morning”… meaning His mercies have no memory of the day before… it is a new day! To round it out, we live in the last statement “Great is YOUR faithfulness”!!! Because if it was our faithfulness… we would be in trouble!
Soli Deo Gloria
