He Restores My Soul.

He Restores My Soul.

Today I needed to be reminded to rest. When I say “rest”, I do not mean emptying my mind, laying around and vegging out. No, I needed to be reminded of the sovereignty of God and know that His plan is active. Working and living in a place that does not know God becomes burdensome and tiring… soul draining!

Here is the scripture that I was immediately reminded of:

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
 forever.

When I learn to allow to be led by the Spirit, my soul is restored. So, practically, how do I do this? Well, the same way David did in these Psalms. In chapter 143 verses 4 and 5 he says “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.”

When we need a soul charge and to feel rest, we need to simply remember what the Lord has done for us. The BEST thing to remember is the sacrifice that was given at the cross on our behalf. Remember the depths of sin that the Lord rescued us from! The more we remember how and what we were saved from, the more we will love Him and He will make us to “lie down in green pastures” and “lead us beside still waters”… He will restore our soul!
