Practice in Prayer.
Do you guys struggle to pray? I know I do. The refreshing thing to me is that Jesus’ closest friends also struggled with prayer. They saw Jesus perform mighty things that were always preceded by prayer and they would marvel at it. Sometimes I wonder if they were really interested in communicating with the Father or if they just wanted to do cool stuff… I digress.
In Luke chapter 11, one of Jesus’ disciples asks Jesus to teach them to pray. Jesus gives them a basic outline but to me, the outstanding part is how Jesus describes the heart of God after giving “the template”. Jesus uses greater and lesser comparisons… “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
One thing I am learning about prayer is much like anything in life that you want to be better at… practice, practice, practice! I have started to pray every morning with my two kids and wife. I pray for each one of them and their day. My wife asked me just this morning “How come no one prays for you?”… I got to tell her because as much as I know this is great for our family and a good example for our kids, this is more about my practice… I want to know how to petition my Father in heaven better!
