Need 22.17 – 16-Year-Old Girl Attempts to Take Her Own Life

We alert you today to a family that is dealing with the aftermath of a near tragedy. A few weeks ago, their 16-year-old daughter attempted to take her own life by ingesting over 100 pills. Doctors were able to save her life, and now the family is trying to get her more help. As with many needs we come across, there are multiple layers to this Need Alert.

The parents of the child are divorced, and they do not have a unified front in addressing the underlying issues that caused the daughter to take this action. She has been admitted into an outpatient therapy program that is too expensive for their budget. The program has given them a grant to pay for the bulk of the cost, but they still need $375 per month for the next 6 months for her to stay in the program. The family cannot afford this extra cost, and we want to provide the monthly payment for the next six months so that the daughter receives the best therapy available.

In addition to the daughter’s need, as I spoke with the mother, I feel strongly that she will also benefit greatly from 10 sessions with our One Need Mental Health team. Helping the mother cope with the stress of this situation will have a positive impact on the daughter as well. We want to cover the cost for those 10 sessions at $75/session.

Finally, the mother has also struggled in her career since last June, adding pressure on the family. She is an occupational therapist and needs help from someone with experience with the billing and administrative processes associated with that line of work. This position can be remote. Please email me at rodney@oneneed.org if you can help, or if you know of someone with expertise in this specific field.
