Need 25.26 – Single Mother In Need After Suffering a Stroke and Apartment Fire in the Same Month
We alert you today to a single mother of two (11,17) who is in need after suffering a stroke and an apartment fire in the same month. In the middle of this past January, she suffered a stroke that took her out of work for 15 days without pay. Then, on January 25th, her apartment caught fire, forcing her and her children to move from their home. The landlord has not paid or helped the family and is dealing with insurance without communicating with her. She secured a week of hotel housing through the Red Cross and then moved into a housing program that helped them while she secured a new apartment. When she secured the apartment, a local charitable organization agreed to help her with utility connections and partial rent support. She commutes an hour each day to and from work. This morning at 8 am, her daughter called her at work and told her their power had been cut off. She has made some calls and has learned that the organization is short on funding and cannot pay her rental support or utility connection. She needs $230 to reconnect her power today, $110 to prevent her water from being shut off tomorrow, and $650 for her remaining rent. We feel strongly that she can maintain herself going forward with this support and is also taking on a second evening job that starts on the 27th of this month. We want to help her through this trying time.
