The Meek Will Inherit The Earth.
Marian Webster defines Meek as : having or showing a quiet and gentle nature : not wanting to fight or argue with other people
The full Definition includes: enduring injury with patience and without resentment, deficient in spirit and courage, not violent or strong
I have to tell you when I read this definition of meek there is nothing in my carnal desire that would make we value or strive to be meek. The world does not make movies about the meek man or glamorize him in the ad campaigns. I have never seen a news story praising someone for their meekness. Being meek just seems completely foreign to the world we live in. At first glance, meekness looks like weakness.
However, upon closer inspection I can not think of anything that his harder to do than be meek. Rapper KB says it well when he says “you think being meek is weak?…try being meek for a week.” Being meek is simply not in our nature. However, it is what God wants for us.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:5 that “blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”
The meek will get the earth. Ok, that is a big reward.
For me, my meekness is directly connected to my trust and faith in the fact that the battle belongs to God. It is not my battle to win. Therefore, I can trust God enough in my life to strive to be meek. My prayer today is that we will all be spiritually strong enough to be meek.
In Christ,
