Need 23.04 – Husband Suffers Spinal Cord Injury
We alert you today to a husband and father who suffered a spinal cord injury in late October after collapsing unexpectedly in his bedroom. He suffered a spinal contusion that has left him currently wheelchair-bound with limited mobility in his legs. He also had significant breathing issues. While in the ICU, he was intubated and then had a tracheotomy performed. After receiving further treatment from a spinal clinic, he is in the process of returning home.
This couple has a 12-year-old son, and the father is the breadwinner for the family. He is facing at least six months to a year of rehabilitation, and his future capacity for physical mobility is unclear. He is receiving a reduced disability income, and his wife is doing her best to manage their finances without a clear finish line in view.
Typically, the goal for a Need Alert is based on specific financial commitments. In this case, since his recovery timeline is unknown, we are setting a goal of $20,000 to support the family for at least the next six months. We plan to keep the giving link active for a week or more. Let’s do whatever we can to sustain this family through a significant stretch in 2023.
