Need 23.54 – 17-Year-Old Son Dies from Cardiac Arrest

Today we alert you to a family trying to recover from the shock and grief of losing their teenage son. Late in the spring, one of their sons was playing basketball with friends when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. The father arrived on the scene just after the paramedics and watched from a distance as they tried to revive him. After several days in the hospital, he was declared brain dead and taken off life support.

A few weeks before their son’s passing, the mother had a setback when she contracted a serious staph infection during a routine medical procedure. She was receiving intravenous antibiotics at home when her son collapsed. She works as a school teacher and had already depleted all her paid time off earlier in the school year when staying home to care for one of her children who was recovering from another surgery. Thankfully, she is on track to return to work when the new school year starts next month.

The whole family, including three surviving siblings, is struggling to recover from this shocking loss of a loved one. They have been battling with depression, nightmares, and panic attacks. The father, in particular, has had a very difficult time dealing with the death of his son. He has not been ready mentally or emotionally to return to his job as a plumber.

Our hearts go out to this grieving family. We want to help them by covering their past due rent, late fees, upcoming August rent payment, and other bills. We also want to provide the family with 20 sessions of trauma and grief counseling with our OneNeed mental health team. This is a large need! Let’s come together to encourage them as they walk through this difficult season of life.
