We alert you today to a single grandmother who has taken in her grandchild and two other young children to keep them out of DFCS foster care. Her son has a one-year-old child with his girlfriend. The couple also had custody of the girlfriend’s two other children, ages 4 and 6, from a separate relationship. Three weeks ago, both of the parents were arrested on drug charges and are currently incarcerated. The grandmother has stepped up to care for the children but needs a little help. She works in a factory full-time and has a strong history of providing for herself. However, the transition has caused her to miss some time from work, and she is struggling financially. She needs $500 to help her pay her rent and $350 for groceries, shoes, and warm clothes for the children. We want to support her as she steps up to care for these children.
