Story
Good Friday Afternoon! We have been busy this week at One Need but this is the first and only Need Alert we are sending this week. We hope you will take a look at it and help this local church partner build a relationship with these two single mothers that are in serious need.
The 2 single mothers are sisters. They we living, with their combined 4 children, at their sisters house. They had just paid rent to their brother-in-law and two days later he kicked them out. They called the police but had no rental agreement in place and no proof that they had paid him anything.
This forced them to check into a motel.
One of the mothers in need has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia and is unable to work or even leave the home at this point. As you can imagine, the other sister feels a responsibility to help her and her children. This is one reason they have chosen to live together. The Schizophrenia diagnosis has been acknowledged by the government she will begin receiving disability payments in 4-6 weeks. It should be enough for her to contribute to the household income going forward.
The healthy single mother/sister made a bad decision and began missing work because her children were sick.(common sickness) She has been a CNA for 10 years and her absence at work caused management to ask her to leave until she could hold her schedule more constantly.
She told me that she was going to go back to work as soon as she got back on her feet and only needed help with the motel fee until next Thursday at the latest. The local church partner has provided them food and motel payments until then.
That is when I began to speak truth into her life. I told her that she is in no position to ever miss work. She needs to ask for help with child care when her kids are sick and protect her job, rather than give up her job due to childcare and ask for rent. She agreed and I prayed with and over her. I then told her that she was going to need more time than she was asking for and that I thought she needed at least 2 weeks to get on her feet. However, she needed to call her old boss and beg to be put back on the schedule. I told her to call right now…Right this minute. I told her that her employment was the key to her getting back on her feet… not charity.
She called her boss and is woking on getting put back on the schedule as we alert you. She also agreed to make a serious effort to get plugged into the local church body so that her family could find community and would never be all alone like this again. |
