The Lord Looks On The Heart - Lesson 16.47

The Lord Looks On The Heart – Lesson 16.47

In 1 Samuel 16 we meet King David for the first time. Saul had disobeyed God and therefore was rejected by God as king over Israel. God tells Samuel to go to Bethlehemite because he has provided a new king. Samuel did what the Lord commanded and went looking for the new king. When he gets there he connects with Jesse and his sons. When he looked on the first son, Eliab, he thought “this must be him!” But the Lord said to Samuel “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart”

Samuel has Jesse show him all of his sons one by one. All of the sons, that are present, pass by Samuel and he is sure they are not the one. Samuel asks Jesse if all of the sons are there he tells him that there is one more, but he is the youngest and is out keeping the sheep. Samuel asks for him to to send for him and and when he arrives… God anoints David king right there on the spot.

My prayer today is two fold:

1.) I pray that we will be more concerned with he condition of our hearts than we are of our outward appearance. That we will be more concerned about what God sees in us rather than what man sees on the outside of us.

2.) I pray that God will give us eyes to see as He sees. That we will be less concerned about people’s appearance and more concerned with he condition of their heart.
