Need 21.67 – Single Mother Faces Eviction After Son’s Cornea Transplant
Today, we alert you to a single mother of two boys who needs help. Last month, she was faced with a tough decision: either pay for her son’s medical procedure or pay her rent. She works full-time and has health insurance. Her 17-year-old son suffered from an eye disease that required him to undergo surgery for a cornea transplant. Because of this condition, he has been unable to play sports, and he won’t be fully recovered until late next spring.
The mother thought she had the necessary finances in place, but she learned the week of the surgery that she needed to pay over $5,000 at the time of the procedure. She made the payment with everything she had in savings, which meant that she could not pay her rent. She is now two months behind and they are facing eviction. When we talked, she told me that she does not have a dollar to her name. Her next paycheck is not coming until December 15th. She needs $2,782 to avoid eviction, and we also want to give her $300 for food and gas money for the next ten days.
