Need Alert 26.59 – 28-Year-Old Single Mother Recovering From Heart Transplant

We are working today to support a 28-year-old single mother of 5-year-old twins who is recovering from a heart transplant. Doctors discovered her heart disease in 2018 when she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure caused by cardiomyopathy. Despite treatment, her condition continued to worsen, and in 2021, she received an implanted defibrillator to help protect her heart. By 2024, the heart failure had progressed to the point that she was diagnosed with end-stage heart failure and required an LVAD— left ventricular assist device—to keep her heart functioning, and she was placed on the heart transplant waiting list. She and her family prayed and waited. On July 27th, she received the call she had been praying for: a heart was available. She was given approximately one hour to get to the hospital. There was no time to prepare, no time to plan for work, bills, childcare, or what the next day would look like. She had to trust God and get to the hospital. The transplant was successful, and she spent the following two weeks in the hospital recovering before being released to go home with her recovery plan.

She and her doctors hope she can return to work sometime in October, but it will depend on how her physical therapy progresses. She is receiving some short-term disability, but it is not enough to secure her and the children’s housing and utilties through October. This is a larger need, but she needs at least $6,500 to bridge the financial gap while she recovers and returns to work. It will take all of us, but we want to provide her with this critical financial support until she can return to work and begin providing for herself and her twins.
