We alert you today of a 29-year-old father of two children ages 4 and 6. In most cases, I try to keep these Need Alerts short and to the point. However, I believe this Need requires a little more explanation.

This young father has lived a life of addiction since he was 15 years old. He was addicted to opioids and methamphetamines and severely abused alcohol when his drugs of choice were not available. He joined the Navy when he was 20 years old. His addictions remained after his service, and he found himself in serious legal trouble. Law enforcement charged him with a string of charges including, drug sales, possession, and assault.

Two years ago this coming January he began his recovery and has been sober ever since. He works at a thrift store for an opioid recovery community and cares for his two children on his own. He also volunteers his time to lead groups at the recovery center. He has been successfully navigating his way through a particular court program for veterans and is in his final phase. He will graduate the program in 5 more months.

A few days ago his, paid for, 2004 Isuzu Rodeo broke down. He uses the car to care for the children, and he also donates its services to pull a trailer for the thrift store’s donation pick up service. The car is not worth much in its current state, and he does not need to take on a new car loan at this point in his recovery. However, he does need a car, and we have been working with our local partner to come up with a sensible solution.

The solution is a costly auto repair. The automobile needs new coil packs, wires, new catalytic converter, and a general tune-up. Due to the age and model of the car, the parts are expensive, but we have secured the labor at a significant discount. A friend of his that he serves with at the recovery center is an auto mechanic that has been in recovery for a long time, and he has agreed to fix the car for only $170 in labor. We would like to help with the parts and labor to repair the young father’s only transportation.
