Need 22.60 – Hard-working Family In Need

We alert you today to a hard-working family in need. Earlier this year, their son’s daycare shut down because of a Covid outbreak. After reopening, their son was denied readmittance because he had lingering Covid-like symptoms from a different illness. During this time, the mother was forced to take time off from work to care for her son. After an extended absence, the daycare demanded they either pay their outstanding balance of $3,000 or face legal action. (We’ve learned this is a common issue young families face when dealing with vague or convoluted daycare contracts.)

Rather than enter into a legal battle and begin the process of finding another daycare, the couple decided to take out a loan to pay off their daycare bill. They have been scrambling to recover ever since. The husband recently consolidated his full-time hours into a four-day workweek, allowing the wife to work part-time two days a week. He has also taken part-time jobs on the weekend when it fits into their schedule. In reviewing their budget and current income, they should be fine moving forward. They have agreed to connect with a financial counselor through our church partner, where they have been attending services and engaging in a small group class recently. The bottom line is that this couple has been working very hard to recover from this financial setback. We want to help them get caught up on their current bills, which total $3,400.
