We are working today to help a husband and father of two (13,11) who is working through temporary paralysis. The whole family enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, swimming, fishing, and hunting. The father provides for the family, working in construction, and they are also active in their home church.

On June 26th, the father was involved in an auto accident that he initially walked away from. Over the next two weeks, he began to lose feeling in his hands, arms, feet, and legs, and on July 13th he lost the use of his left arm entirely. He was forced to stop working and went to the emergency room. Doctors discovered he had herniated discs that were causing pressure on his spinal cord, and he spent the next week in the hospital. After that week, he was flown to a more specialized facility where he spent another week while doctors addressed the injury.

He has been able to move positions with his company, and they have created an administrative role for him until he recovers. His challenge is that he needs physical therapy now, and insurance has not agreed to cover the cost. We don’t expect them to, and certainly not promptly. He needs two to three months of physical therapy to ensure he can return to his position safely. The cost is estimated at $2,500, and we would like to help him receive the treatment he needs so he can return to his normal work.
