We are working today with an elderly couple who need help making a housing change. Five years ago, the husband had a massive stroke, leaving him incapable of caring for himself on a daily basis. This health event not only took him out of work, but it also forced his wife out of work so that she could care for him. The couple has since been living on $2,297 per month in Social Security while paying $1,200 per month in rent. They were recently accepted into a housing program that will drop their rent from the $1,200 per month to $780 per month. This is a clear path for them to thrive in this hard situation. The roadblock is that they need $2,250 in deposits to proceed, and they do not have the funds. We want to help them with the required deposits and, therefore, bless them with more margin on their monthly budget going forward.
